Pet Wellness Exam

Veterinary Check-Ups for Your Pet

At Jupiter Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care, the veterinarians and staff care about the health and well-being of your pet. We believe the key to your loved one’s longevity is through preventative medicine. Preventative animal care starts with annual pet exams.

Our team takes pride in spending time getting to know you and your companion because we understand that each pet is unique. We pledge to formulate a plan that will fit you and your pet’s individual needs.

What to Expect During a Vet Exam

Routine veterinary visits are essential for catching potential health issues early. During your pet’s wellness exam, our veterinarians will conduct a complete physical exam, assessing your pet from head to tail. This examination includes evaluating skin health, dental health, heart function, and joint mobility for signs of conditions like osteoarthritis. We encourage you to talk to the veterinarians and staff and inform them of any recent changes in your pet’s behavior, such as appetite, weight, energy level, drinking habits, or any other unusual change.

During the visit, we can discuss and make recommendations for vaccinations, dental cleanings, microchipping, flea and tick prevention, screening for heartworm and parasitic disease, and blood testing as well as any questions you may have. Every pet is unique, and we take pride in tailoring a care plan that fits your pet’s individual needs.

Parasite Prevention for Cats and Dogs

Parasite control plays a vital role in your pet’s health. Not only do parasites pose a risk to your pet, but they can also affect your home and family. Our team understands the importance of education, and we will take the time to discuss with you the different types of pet parasites, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention against common parasites, including:

We recommend bringing a stool sample to your pet’s exam, so our team can perform a fecal test to check for worms. Should parasites be detected, we will provide the appropriate medication from our hospital pharmacy to treat your pet or refer you to our online pharmacy if needed. Our doctors recommend year-round flea and tick prevention here in South Florida’s warm climate. We abide by The American Heartworm Society recommendations for year round heartworm prevention as well. There is an overwhelming number of preventative flea/tick/heartworm products on the market, so our staff at Jupiter Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care is here to assist you in selecting the right medication for your pet. We welcome any special requests.

Nutrition and Behavior Guidance

Preventive care offers an opportunity to talk about pet nutrition and behavior with a professional. Our team is available to discuss any behavioral problems your pet may be experiencing. We offer consultations regarding conditions such as anxiety, destroying furniture, excessive barking, inappropriate elimination, fear, and aggression. Not sure which food of the many, many food options is right for your pet? Your veterinarian can provide guidance on nutrition, supplementation, weight management, and potential food allergies. Let us help make your and your pet’s lives better.
