Vaccines for Dogs and Cats
Our veterinary team believes in a well-balanced vaccination protocol tailored to your pet’s individual needs. Vaccinations are a crucial part of preventative care, protecting your companion from serious and potentially fatal diseases. The veterinary profession has made great advances in immunizations for pets that now make once-fatal diseases easily preventable. We use only the highest-quality vaccines at Jupiter Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care, and our team is here to guide you through the best vaccine plan for your pet’s lifestyle and age.
Why Vaccinate Your Pet?
Vaccinations are essential to safeguard pets from common infectious diseases, some of which can be life-threatening. Not only do vaccines protect individual pets, but they also prevent the spread of diseases within the community. Puppies and kittens are particularly vulnerable, which is why early vaccination is crucial to building a strong immune system.
We recommend starting vaccinations for puppies and kittens at around 8 weeks of age, followed by boosters over the next 2 months. For adult and senior pets, we take a customized approach, adjusting the vaccination schedule based on their age, environment, and lifestyle. Jupiter Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care does not believe in over-vaccination and instead uses an extended vaccine protocol as your pet grows older. Whether pediatric, adult, or senior, we will discuss and formulate a pet vaccination plan for your companion’s lifestyle and environment. We are always open to discussing any questions or concerns you may have regarding vaccination protocols for your pet.
It is important to note that we will not be able to vaccinate your pet if they are currently sick as their immune system will not be able to correctly respond to the vaccine. Instead of a vaccination appointment, we would suggest reaching out for urgent care for your sick pet.
Dog Vaccinations
Keeping your dog up to date on vaccinations is key to preventing diseases that could otherwise severely impact their health. We offer a full range of core vaccinations for dogs, which are required to protect your companion from common illnesses. Our veterinarians may also recommend non-core dog vaccines based on lifestyle factors. Please note that sometimes a single shot may be a combination of two or more vaccinations.
Core Vaccinations
- Rabies
- Canine Distemper Virus (CDV)
- Infectious Canine Hepatitis (ICH)
- Canine Parvovirus (CPV)
- Canine Parainfluenza Virus (CPiV)
- Canine Adenovirus (CAV)
- Leptospirosis
- Bordetella bronchiseptica (Kennel Cough)
Non-Core Vaccinations
- Canine Influenza Virus (CIV)
- Lyme Disease
Based on your dog’s environment, travel habits, and overall health, our veterinarians will recommend the most appropriate vaccine schedule. We are here to help guide you through these decisions. Your dog will receive the right protection at the right time.
Cat Vaccinations
Vaccinations for cats are equally vital, protecting them from a host of contagious and dangerous diseases. Whether your cat is an indoor or outdoor pet, our veterinary team can design a vaccination protocol that keeps them safe and healthy. As with dog vaccines, a single shot may contain multiple vaccinations.
Core Vaccinations
- Rabies
- Feline Infectious Enteritis (FIE)
- Feline Panleukopenia (FPL)
- Feline Calicivirus (FCV)
- Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR)
- Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV)
Non-Core Vaccinations
- Bordetella bronchiseptica
- Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
- Chlamydophila felis
Our veterinarians will work closely with you to determine the best vaccination plan based on your cat’s health, lifestyle, and risk of exposure. Whether your cat spends time outdoors or strictly stays inside, vaccinations are necessary for protecting their long-term health.
