Our Veterinary Diagnostic Technology
We use many advanced diagnostics for pets to assess the health of our patients and address your medical concerns. These veterinary technologies allow us to examine your pet’s internal systems and diagnose health conditions without the immediate need for invasive procedures. Our in-house diagnostic tools include:
- Digital X-ray: Our digital radiography provides high-quality, detailed images in an instant. This allows our veterinarians to assess your pet’s internal structures, such as bones and organs, quickly and efficiently. We also maintain relationships with board-certified radiologists as well as other specialists for additional consultations when necessary.
- Ultrasound and Echocardiogram: Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging tool that allows us to view your pet’s internal organs, such as the heart, liver, and kidneys, in real time. Our doctors have spent many years using ultrasound at emergency and specialty animal hospitals, and have experience with echocardiograms as well as general soft-tissue ultrasounds.
- Digital Dental X-ray: Our digital dental radiography helps us evaluate your pet’s teeth and gums by identifying root fragments, assessing tooth vitality, and detecting dental disease
- Blood Pressure Monitoring: Our veterinarians use blood pressure monitoring equipment to assess your pet’s condition during anesthesia and emergencies, as well as during comprehensive physical exams to establish baseline readings.
- Electrocardiogram (ECG): An ECG machine is used to monitor your pet’s heart health by measuring electrical activity, helping us detect arrhythmias and other heart conditions.
In-House Lab Equipment
In addition to diagnostic technology, Jupiter Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care maintains a complete in-house laboratory. Our veterinary lab allows us to perform a range of testing on-site, such as a complete blood count (CBC), serum chemistry, urine analysis, stool tests, and ear and tissue cytology. The in-house laboratory helps us to diagnose emergencies and have results quickly. Our laboratory diagnostics include Heska® blood machines, centrifuge, urinalysis, and parasite testing.
While our in-house lab covers most of our diagnostic needs, we also collaborate with a trusted reference laboratory for specialized tests that cannot be performed on-site. This partnership ensures that your pet has access to a full spectrum of diagnostic services, no matter the complexity of their condition.
Lab Work for Cats and Dogs
Many of the same diagnostic technologies used for human health are available for pets. Routine lab work during annual wellness exams helps our veterinarians establish baselines for your pet’s health and can detect early signs of illness. Some of the common lab tests we perform are:
- Complete Blood Count (CBC): A CBC measures the number of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets in a sample. This pet blood test is used to diagnose conditions in pets, such as infections, anemia, and cancer.
- Blood Chemistry Panel: This veterinary test measures electrolytes, enzymes, and chemical elements, including calcium and phosphorus. These panels are used to assess organ function, diagnose and treat illness, and monitor patient response to treatment.
- Urinalysis: A urinalysis detects the presence of substances that do not normally appear in your pet’s urine, including but not limited to white blood cells, protein, sugar, and blood. The results from a pet urinalysis are useful for diagnosing urinary tract infections, kidney problems, dehydration, and diabetes.
- Heartworm Test: In compliance with the recommendations of the American Veterinary Medical Board, we encourage all of our pet patients to have an annual blood test to confirm whether heartworms are present.

- Fecal Examination: Fecal exams are used to identify the presence of intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, tapeworms, and giardia. We perform these fecal tests for pets in-house and can send samples to a reference lab for further analysis if needed.
